Spot intelligence.

Amban is Manokwari's north-coast beach, not the Abasi or Cape Bakaro reef breaks east of town. Original local accounts document selected beginner lessons, beach peaks and shallow rocks. Intermediate is a conservative minimum for independent recommendations across this unsplit marker and unvalidated offshore band; it does not deny locally selected supervised learning. Check the active peak, underwater obstacles and entry locally. A competition report or a sandy beach does not certify safe conditions.

Reviewed 24 Oct 2026 · not observation-validated

Published-source review, not validation against measured breaking waves. Compass references are qualitative ranking inputs, not surveyed optima or complete acceptance windows. The inherited 0.6–3.0 m offshore-model band remains unchanged and unvalidated: not a local working range, learner-safe limit or wave-face conversion. Original approximate place markers remain. Explicit sea requests do not survey takeoffs, depth, currents, access or provider-snapped cells. Travel Papua's own Amban Beach House account identifies its north-coast setting and North Pacific groundswell season. Undiscovered's own destination account describes Amban beach breaks and explicitly reports northern swells; N/0° is a coarse interpretation of that directional description, not a measured local optimum, a claim of due-north-only exposure or an inferred opposite-wind axis. Asian Surf Cooperative's original November2023 event report records both sides of an A-frame peak at Amban. This historical session establishes reported left/right shape, not present bank position, whole-beach symmetry, ability or measured model conversion. Charles Roring's original firsthand account separately recalls shallow rocks at Amban; it is a historical hazard report, not a present seabed survey, and Abasi's reef mechanics are not transferred. Abasi Surfing Club's own2021 post confirms selected lessons at Amban; the conservative Intermediate app gate reflects the unsplit rocky-beach marker and unknown local-size transition, not an independently published all-condition grade. No original spot-specific numerical wind optimum or tide response was established: wind direction/opposite-swell fallback, tide phase/motion bonuses, preferred windows and adaptive fallback stay off. Published swimming, uncrowded, access and service assurances are not adopted as current clearance. The retained pin and six-kilometre northward marine request are approximate, not surveyed takeoffs.

Character

01

Amban Beach is defined by lefts and rights · beach peaks reported over beach banks with reported shallow rocks · unsurveyed. The shape can change with swell angle, period and the active section, so the live score should always be paired with a visual check from shore.

Best setup

02

N · coarse northern-swell guide reference swell, directional response · unverified and local bank and rock response · unverified form the profile baseline. SWELLRADAR retains 0.6–3.0 m as an offshore-model ranking band, not a measured local surf limit or a breaking-wave prediction.

Lineup read

03

Choose a peak that matches your experience and reassess it as tide and crowd change. Pay particular attention to reported rocks in shallow water, stronger seasonal pacific surf, changing beach peaks and unsurveyed entry. Local signs and advice always take priority.
