Spot intelligence.

Chickens is the central Sombrio peak in front of the path, not Firsts, Seconds or the specialist Waterfalls ledge. A historical smaller-wave/beginner description is not independent learner clearance. Intermediate is the conservative minimum for this rocky peak and unsurveyed model band; reassess the lineup and entry locally.

Reviewed 24 Oct 2026 · not observation-validated

Published-source review, not validation against measured breaking waves. Compass references are qualitative ranking inputs, not surveyed optima or complete acceptance windows. The inherited 0.6–3.0 m offshore-model band remains unvalidated: not a local surf limit, safe learner range or wave-face conversion. Existing approximate pins remain. Sea requests are model-sampling locations, not takeoff, depth, current, access or provider-cell surveys. Colin Delaney's original firsthand account identifies a right reef. Nora O'Malley's 2026 report independently locates Chickens, describes the main rocky-reef setting and interviews local surfer Alexander Rosin about fast waves. The older atlas's rocky-beach label conflicts with those accounts; reef classification does not survey sand cover or depth. W is the operator's Sombrio-bay reference, not a measured peak optimum; the atlas lists NW. Wind directions differ and bay-wide all-stage tide wording is not peak calibration: directional wind/opposite-swell fallback and tide bonuses/windows/adaptive fallback remain off. Delaney's dated travel geography and camping advice are not adopted. Original article read directly by HTTP after web-tool cache failure; no restriction bypassed.

Character

01

Chickens · Sombrio is defined by right · central named reef peak over rocky reef · sand cover and exact depth unverified. The shape can change with swell angle, period and the active section, so the live score should always be paired with a visual check from shore.

Best setup

02

W · published bay-scale reference, peak response unmeasured swell, directional response · unverified and peak-specific response · unverified form the profile baseline. SWELLRADAR retains 0.6–3.0 m as an offshore-model ranking band, not a measured local surf limit or a breaking-wave prediction.

Lineup read

03

Choose a peak that matches your experience and reassess it as tide and crowd change. Pay particular attention to submerged rocks, fast concentrated takeoff, cold water and exposed shore access. Local signs and advice always take priority.
