Reading the ocean.
SWELLRADAR is requesting a verified marine run for Las Tunas.
Spot intelligence.
This existing Las Tunas entry represents the extended sandy village beach north of Ayampe, not the separately described left reef. Intermediate is the minimum independent-recommendation gate: the local sources describe stronger surf and currents on larger swells. Guided learning depends on selected small conditions, and the local operator explicitly moves to gentler beaches when needed. The model band is not a safe lesson range. Reassess the current bank, shorebreak and exit locally.

Reviewed 23 Oct 2026 · not observation-validated
Published sources reviewed by SWELLRADAR, not validation against measured breaking waves. Swell-from and wind-from inputs are independent qualitative references, not surveyed optima or complete acceptance windows. All five inherited 0.6–3.0 m offshore-model ranking bands remain unchanged and unvalidated: they are not measured local working ranges, safe learner limits or wave-face conversions. Approximate original place markers are retained, not surveyed takeoffs or approved entries. Explicit sea requests and provider snapping do not resolve local sandbars, reefs, current channels, jetty reflection or wave faces. Outdoor Ecuador's original 2024 guide by Isabella Heeney and Bruno Tomalá describes the extended left/right beach break, Intermediate–Advanced context, stronger-swell/current caution and small-day learning exceptions. Sirenas del Surf's own local account corroborates sandy beach use and condition-selected lessons, including moving elsewhere when waves are too big. The original Surf-Forecast Las Tunas guide independently supplies SW swell and ENE wind for its wider beach-and-reef location; its approximate pin north of the village is not used to move this marker or assign the separate reef's left-only mechanics to the sandy beach. These are qualitative coastal references, not surveyed takeoff optima. Tide quality remains unverified without phase/motion bonuses, preferred windows or adaptive fallback. Neither cited metre ranges, seasonality, crowd claims nor guided-trip marketing become a wave-face factor, present service guarantee or safe independent learner clearance.
- Outdoor Ecuador · Heeney and Tomalá original Las Tunas guide
Original 2024 guide's Las Tunas section describes a long left/right beach break, Intermediate–Advanced grade, strong-swell/current caution and small-day learning exceptions; metre figures are not adopted as a model band
- Sirenas del Surf · original local Las Tunas surf description
Local operator describes the sandy beach, condition-selected lessons and moving to gentler breaks if surf is too big; not a current booking, independent beginner certificate or tide optimum
- Surf-Forecast · original Las Tunas coast guide
Original wider beach-and-reef guide supplies SW swell, independent ENE wind and rock/rip cautions; its separate left reef and approximate northern pin are not assigned to this village beach marker

Character
01Las Tunas is defined by lefts and rights · extended beach peaks over sand banks · separate reef sections nearby. The shape can change with swell angle, period and the active section, so the live score should always be paired with a visual check from shore.
Best setup
02SW · qualitative coast reference swell, ene · qualitative guide reference and bank-specific · check locally form the profile baseline. SWELLRADAR retains 0.6–3.0 m as an offshore-model ranking band, not a measured local surf limit or a breaking-wave prediction.
Lineup read
03Choose a peak that matches your experience and reassess it as tide and crowd change. Pay particular attention to strong surf and currents on larger swells, changing banks and shorebreak, rock and reef sections outside the selected bank. Local signs and advice always take priority.
