Spot intelligence.

Ouakam is the reef below Dakar's Mosque of the Divinity. Its lefts and rights can become hollow and powerful. This is expert-only, not a recommendation for advanced-but-not-expert surfers. The camp's beginner sessions at Secret are not evidence of learner suitability here. Small offshore-model values do not establish safe reef clearance. Inspect the actual reef, entry and local advice before entering.

Profile sources & limits

Reviewed 23 Oct 2026 · not observation-validated

Published sources reviewed by SWELLRADAR, not validation against measured breaking waves. Swell-from and wind-from references are qualitative ranking inputs, not surveyed optima. The inherited 0.6–3.0 m offshore-model bands remain unchanged: they are not measured local surf limits, safe ability ranges or wave-face conversions. Original approximate map pins are retained as place markers, not surveyed takeoffs or approved entry routes. Offshore requests do not resolve individual reefs, shelter or sand banks. Local conditions, notices and personal ability override this profile. The local original guide explicitly restricts Ouakam to experts; the separate expert-only eligibility guard blocks learning, intermediate and advanced profiles even when forecast scores look attractive. Its N/S activation description and local surf-height example are not a surveyed acceptance sector, offshore-model threshold or measured safe depth. SW from the general guide is retained only as a qualitative ranking reference, not a complete swell window; NE wind is independently reported there. No island/headland attenuation or wave-height conversion is inferred. No preferred tide phase is established, so no phase/motion bonus, preferred window or adaptive fallback is added. Ngor Island Surf Camp's own 2019 film description separates Ouakam barrels from teaching at Secret; it is historical context, not current conditions. Le Monde's original 2026 field report corroborates place and powerful surf, not directional mechanics. Sources do not establish live crowds, current access, patrol coverage or water-quality clearance.

Character

01

Ouakam is defined by lefts and rights · reef peaks over rock reef · local depth unverified. The shape can change with swell angle, period and the active section, so the live score should always be paired with a visual check from shore.

Best setup

02

SW reference · N/S activation also reported swell, ne · qualitative guide reference and reef-specific · check locally form the profile baseline. SWELLRADAR retains 0.6–3.0 m as an offshore-model ranking band, not a measured local surf limit or a breaking-wave prediction.

Lineup read

03

This is an expert-only profile, not an advanced-intermediate recommendation. Even experts must assess the active reef, entry and exit locally; smaller model values are not safety clearance. Pay particular attention to shallow rock reef, powerful hollow waves, crowded takeoffs when working. Local signs and advice always take priority.
