SWELLRADAR is requesting a verified marine run for Praia do Cupe.
Spot intelligence.
This profile represents Cupe's exposed beach surf, not the coral-pool experience associated with Porto de Galinhas. A local instructor describes courses in selected conditions alongside stronger surf. Intermediate is a conservative minimum for independent recommendations across the unsplit beach, not permission to enter every peak or swell. Seek current local advice about banks, channels and ability before paddling out.

Reviewed 19 Oct 2026 · not observation-validated
Published sources reviewed by SWELLRADAR, not validation against measured breaking waves. Swell-from and wind-from bearings are independent qualitative ranking references, not surveyed optima. The inherited generic 0.6–3.0 m offshore-model bands remain unchanged: they are not measured local surf limits, safe learner ranges or wave-face conversions. Approximate map pins are place markers, not surveyed takeoffs or approved entry routes. Explicit sea requests sample offshore models. Local notices, actual banks, currents and personal ability override the profile. The original surf guide supplies SE swell and an independent WNW wind reference. The local instructor interview describes Cupe's stronger open-beach waves and selected lessons; its reproduced W-wind guide supports a westerly sector, not a measured unique optimum. Neither establishes one preferred quality tide phase. Galvão's 2018 UFPE dissertation documents changing circulation and rip currents during a five-day, 218-deployment field experiment, including rips across tide levels. Its historical speeds, depths and wave statistics are not current readings, risk probabilities, local surf-height correction factors or safe-entry thresholds. No phase/motion bonus, preferred tide window or adaptive beach fallback is added. Higher water is not a safety clearance. The old experiment and general guide do not establish live warnings, current bank geometry or surveyed takeoffs.
- Surf-Forecast · Cupe original guide
Exposed beach break, sand-bottom lefts and rights, SE swell and independent WNW wind reference; dynamic tide tables do not establish a preferred phase
- Vivo Porto de Galinhas · original local surf-instructor interview
2022 original interview with Cupe instructor Santiago Gutierrez: stronger open-beach surf, courses in selected conditions and light-wind context; its reproduced local guide describes a westerly wind sector
- UFPE · Daniel Brandt Galvão, Cupe rip-current dissertation (2018)
Original Cupe field research: five days and 218 drifter deployments, variable banks/channels and rip-current circulation at different tide levels; historical measurements, not a live current forecast or safe-tide rule

Character
01Praia do Cupe is defined by lefts and rights · bank-dependent peaks over sand banks · exposed open-beach surf zone. The shape can change with swell angle, period and the active section, so the live score should always be paired with a visual check from shore.
Best setup
02SE · qualitative beach reference swell, wnw · qualitative westerly reference and bank-specific · no safe-tide promise form the profile baseline. SWELLRADAR retains 0.6–3.0 m as an offshore-model ranking band, not a measured local surf limit or a breaking-wave prediction.
Lineup read
03Choose a peak that matches your experience and reassess it as tide and crowd change. Pay particular attention to documented rip currents, powerful open-beach peaks, shifting banks and channels. Local signs and advice always take priority.
